I. Translate the Following Passage into Chinese (50 Points):

Network Era

It is said that no two words could provoke such mixed emotions in parents. Some fear and shun it, considering it no more than a necessary evil for children these days. Others embrace it with open arms, welcoming it like a long lost friend into the family. Indeed, the Internet has become such a pervasive medium in this day and age that it is hard to imagine life without it.

The Internet is a tremendous resource for everyone. The wealth of information and the ease of access were two very attractive draws for me as an educator. We managed to link up with schools in the US and worked with them on a cyber-exchange programme. My students have had no problems adapting to this medium as it tapped on their latent ability to discover and explore new things.

Wiring up has also affected me in other ways. My first email account enabled me to communicate more effectively and frequently. Gone were the days where I needed to go to the post office to send greeting cards or photos of my family to friends overseas. My leisure and entertainment pursuits too have changed with the Internet. With easy access to information of all forms and nature, I have acquired a greater depth of knowledge in areas that interest me.

互联网对所有人来说都是一个庞大的资源库。作为一个教育工作者，网络最吸引我的两大特点就是信息量巨大且使用方便。我们利用网络联系美国的学校，通过网际交流项目同他们合作。我的学生们很容易适应这个媒介，因为互联网激发了他们的才能，使他们不断发现和探索新事物。

网络也给我带来了许多其他的影响。第一次申请电子邮箱后，我和外界的联系更高效，更频繁了，再也不用跑到邮局给海外的朋友们寄贺卡或我家人的照片了。网络也让我的业余生活发生了变化。由于能够轻易地获得各类信息，我对自己感兴趣的领域也有了更深入的了解。

学外语的9个秘诀

1、语言要坚持天天学。如果实在没有时间，就是学十分钟也可以。当然，最好是早晨学；

2、如果学习的愿望减弱得很快，这个时候就不要硬来，但也不要丢下。最好寻求别的方式，去听听广播；把书中的练习暂时搁置一旁，然后去翻一翻词典等；

3、千万不要机械地死记硬背，不要离开上下文而孤立地死记硬背词语；

4、优先摘记并背诵那些用的场合最多的“现成句子”；

5、随时随地地学习。如一闪而过的广告牌、海报上的字句、偶尔听到的只言片语等与生活相关的内容，把能够翻译的东西都进行默译，这往往是一种休息，对已经疲劳的头脑也是一种休息；

6、把现成的句子和成语摘抄下来，牢牢记住；

7、外语就像是一座堡垒，必须从四面八方同时向它进攻才能一举夺得：读报纸，听广播，看原版电影，上外语课，研究教材，同讲该语种的人通信和交谈。

8、要大胆开口，不要怕可能出现的错误，而要请人家纠正你的错误。

9、坚信自己无论如何一定能够达到目的，坚信你有不屈不挠的意志和语言的非凡的天才。

9 tips for learning a foreign language

1. You have to keep on learning a foreign language daily if you want to master it. If you are really short of time, it would be good if you can spare ten minutes for it. Of course, the best time for it is early in the morning; 

2. If your interest of learning the language subsides quickly, don’t force yourself to learn it, nor stop learning. You’d better find other ways: put down your textbook to listen to the radio, or put your exercise aside to consult the dictionary.

3. Never learn by rote, nor try to mechanically memorize isolated words and expressions.

4. Priority should be given to taking notes of the most commonly used “ready-made sentences” and keep them in mind.

5. Learn the language whenever or wherever possible. Anything relevant to the language will do, such as words, expressions or sentences on a flashing by advertising board or a poster, or words and expressions you hear by chance. Try to silently interpret anything available. It is a rest for you. Meanwhile, it is also a rest for your exhausted mind.

6. Extract useful ready-made expressions and idioms and bear them in mind.

7. A foreign language is like a fortress which can only be taken at one blow by attacking it in all directions. You have to read newspapers, listen to news broadcast, watch movies in the original language, attend classes, study teaching materials, and correspond and talk with native speakers.

8. Be brave to start talk. Never be afraid of making mistakes. Ask others to correct your mistakes. 

9. Firmly convince yourself that you are bound to realize your goal and that you have indomitable will and extraordinary gift in language learning.
