Magnolia Flower” (Mu-lan hua) Wei Ch’eng-pan
The hibiscus comes to tiny bloom. Their scent flutters on the air. In the jade hall, her feelings
are like the deepest water. She shuts away her make-up case. She closes fast the golden door. By the screen, her sleeves trail
loose in her dazed grief.
Across the scene, mists linger
over the beautiful flowers. On a winding islet, mandarin
ducks doze in brocaded wings. She mournfully stares far away,
her quiet thoughts of him. The flowery patches on her cheeks
crumple with her sorrow.
