江上巍巍万岁楼，不知经历几千秋。

年年喜见山长在，日日悲看水独流。

猿狖何曾离暮岭，鸬鹚空自泛寒洲。

The Myriad-Year Tower

Lofty above the river, the Myriad-Year Tower,

How many thousand autumns has it braved?

Year after year there’s joy in seeing the mountains endure,

Day after day there’s grief in watching the water just flow.

Why did the monkeys leave the evening mountains?

The cormorants aimlessly drift around the cold island.

Who can bear to climb and look into the clouds and mist?

Toward evening the vastness stirs the traveler’s grief.
