路逢相识人，附书与六亲。

Du Fu

We recruits have our commanders to send us off,

but, bound for distant duty, we’re people too!

From here we go to face life or death—

no cause for the officers to shout and scowl!

Along the road I happened on someone I knew,

handed him a letter to give to kinfolk:

“Too bad, but we go different ways now,

no longer to share the same hardships and pain.”
