A Verse with Four Seven-Character Lines

Five-Cloud Mount

1955

On the Five-Cloud Mountain1, five clouds fly,

Approaching the peaks afar and stroking the embankments nearby.

If you ask, what place is good in Hangzhou,

Here can be heard the wild orioles’ cry.

1. The Five-Cloud Mountain is near the Qiantang River. It is said that there are five-color clouds hovering about the top of the mountain.
