By the mighty vernal river we lingered for a short time,

Then we stepped up the peaks, layer upon layer to widen our horizon.

The zephyr springing up from the green island wafted the wavelets away,

And from over the fields the drizzle winged atop the mountain.

Those who chatted and laughed over the brew are still as of yore,

But in the alien land the chicken and worm are in a woeful condition.

Lament not over the evanescence of the spring of life,

Yet we revisited the Hexi Tower after the elapse of thirty years’ span.
