I welcome the focus on road
safety for this year’s World Telecommunication and Information Society Day. 我高兴地看到，今年的世界电信和信息社会日把道路安全作为焦点。
Road accidents kill nearly 1.3
million people every year. 每年有接近130万人死于公路事故。
They leave millions more injured
or permanently disabled, placing a heavy economic burden on families and
countries.
公路事故还致使千百万人受伤或永久残疾，给家庭和国家都带来沉重的经济负担。 The United Nations Decade of
Action for Road Safety from 2011 to 2020 is dedicated to helping to make roads
and vehicles safer worldwide. 2011至2020年的联合国道路安全行动十年致力于让全世界的公路和车辆更加安全。
Information and communication
technologies provide many options. 信息和电信技术提供了很多备选方案。
Intelligent Transport Systems and
navigation devices can help reduce congestion.

collisions with other road users – including pedestrians.

less accidents, especially among young people who account for more than half of
road deaths.

Telecommunication Union for its work with industry to develop ICT standards and
for collaborating with the International Automobile Federation to create
awareness on road safety.

technology to dramatically reduce traffic fatalities. This can save millions of
lives.
