Remarks by H.E. Yang Xiuping at the Opening Ceremony of the Photography Exhibition “Dream & Memory-Changes of Chinese People’s Livelihood over the Past 35 Years”

尊敬的中国文联李屹副主席，

尊敬的东盟基金会执行主任陈伊莲女士，

各位使节、来宾们，

Distinguished Ambassadors and guests:

在中华人民共和国成立65周年之际，作为中国—东盟文化交流年重要活动之一，中国文联、中国驻东盟使团和东盟基金会联合举办“梦想·记忆—中国民生35年之变迁”摄影展。我谨代表中国驻东盟使团，向摄影展在印尼隆重开幕表示衷心祝贺，向各界嘉宾表示热烈欢迎。

On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, China Federation of Literary and Arts Circles, the Mission of China to ASEAN and the ASEAN Foundation jointly hold this Photo Exhibition entitled “Dream and Memory-Changes of Chinese People’s Livelihood over the Past 35 Years”. On behalf of the Mission of China to ASEAN, I would like to sincerely congratulate the grand opening of the Exhibition in Indonesia, and warmly welcome the distinguished guests from all walks of life.

35年前，中国开启了改革开放的历史征程，以农村改革为先导，逐步深入经济、文化、社会等各领域，形成和发展了符合当代中国国情、充满生机和活力的新机制。改革解放了生产力，顺应了人民对美好生活的追求，开辟了中国特色的社会主义道路。中国的综合国力不断增强，人民生活水平不断提高，社会事业全面发展，国际地位显著提高。

35 years ago, China embarked on the historical journey of reform and opening up, which began with rural reform and gradually went deep into various fields including economy, culture, social affairs and etc. It formed and developed a new system that is both in conformity with the national conditions of China and full of vigor and vitality. The reform has liberalized productivity, accommodated the people’s pursuit for better lives, and created the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics. China’s comprehensive national power and the people’s living standards have continuously improved, its social undertakings have developed in an all-round way, and international status has risen noticeably.

中国在改革开放的同时，继续坚持走和平发展道路，坚持互利共赢。中国既从对外开放中获取发展机遇，又以自身发展为世界创造增长动力。2013年，中国对世界经济增长贡献率近30%，成为推动世界经济增长的主要引擎之一。今天的中国，已成为128个国家最大的贸易伙伴，成为维护世界和平的主要力量。

As China advances reform and opening up, it continues to adhere to the path of peaceful development and the principles of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. China has not only obtained development opportunities from its opening up, but also fueled the growth of the world with its own development. In 2013, China contributed nearly 30% of the world’s economic growth and became one of the main engines sustaining the growth. Now China is the largest trading partner of 128 countries, and has become a major force in safeguarding the world peace.

但中国仍面临许多制约发展的因素，需要通过全面深化改革加以解决。为此，我们启动了政治、经济、文化、社会、生态文明五位一体的改革。中国政府将简政放权作为其中“第一件大事”，过去一年多，已取消和下放行政审批600多项，激发了企业和市场活力，极大促进了政府职能转变，促进了调结构、惠民生。中国全面深化改革将为世界发展提供更多中国机遇，将为世界和平贡献更多中国力量。

Nevertheless, China still faces many factors constraining its development that need to be addressed through comprehensively deepening reforms. To this end, we initiated five-pillar reform including politics, economy, culture, society and ecological civilization. The Chinese government has assumed its first major task to streamline administration and institute decentralization. Over the past year, more than 600 administrative approvals have been canceled or delegated to the lower levels. Vitalities of enterprises and the market have been unleashed. It has greatly promoted the transformation of government function, economic structure adjustment and brought benefits to the people’s livelihood.

今天的展览描绘了35年来中国人的梦想和记忆。让我们通过每个凝固的瞬间，透过普通中国人生活状态、精神面貌的改变，一起感受中国社会的进步、民生的发展、人民对幸福与和平的追求。

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today’s Photo Exhibition depicts the dream and memory of the Chinese people over the past 35 years. Let us witness the changes of living conditions, and feel the advancement of Chinese society, progress of people’s livelihood and their pursuit to happiness and peace.
