Prime
Minister’s Message to the Australian Winter Olympic Team
Friday, 7 February 2014
Winter Olympians, I want to
assure you the whole country is behind you.
It might be summer here in
Australia, but for the next few weeks we will be enjoying your Olympic winter.
Back in 1936 when Kenneth Kennedy
was our one man team in Bavaria -- Australian’s were oddities at the Winter
Olympics -- but not anymore.
This year Australia will send our
largest ever team.
You and those who came before you
in Winter Olympics have shown that while we might live in a “sunburnt country”,
we can compete with the best in winter sports.
We are prepared to have a go in
everything we do, including winter sports. You’ve all worked so hard, you’ve
all given so much to represent our country – and I salute you.
Australia is proud of you. We’re
supporting you and we know that you’ll excel in Sochi.
So on behalf everyone, I send you
our athletes, our officials the very best for a really successful Games. |
