LGBT Pride Month Message from Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro
Hello, I’m HUD Secretary Julián Castro, and I join millions of Americans in celebrating this year’s Pride Month.
All people deserve to live with dignity and be treated with respect, free from fear, violence, and discrimination.
Yet on June 12, our nation had a tragic reminder on how far we still have to go. I want you to know that HUD stands with Orlando, with the victims’ families and friends who are grappling with this senseless loss, and with the entire LGBT community.
At HUD, we’re working each day to expand equality and opportunity for LGBT Americans.
We’re helping to ensure that members of the LGBT community are treated fairly when they look for a home.
We’re also investing in housing and support services for LGBT youth, who’re often at the greatest risk of becoming homeless.
And we’re supporting LGBT seniors so they can live out their golden years with the care they deserve.
Pride Month is about honoring all the LGBT trailblazers who have made our nation a stronger and a fairer place.
It’s also a time to recommit ourselves to the work that remains, and to reaffirm our belief that every American deserves equality, acceptance, and respect, regardless of who they are, or who they love.
We’re proud to do our part. Thank you for doing yours. |
