花色融,
人竞赏,
尽是绣鞍朱鞅。
日斜无计更留连,
归路草和烟。
“Delight in the High-Flying Orioles” (Hsi ch’ien ying), Three Lyrics
Hsüeh Chao-yün
3
It is time for ch’ing-ming.
The sky is cleared of rain.
I have achieved my success just at this very time.
My horse proudly paces the mud, secure in silk trappings.
The whip is half-concealed by my fragrant sleeves.
Flowers blossom in harmony.
Men vie to delight in them.
Every saddle is ornamented and every bridle is beaded.
The sun is setting, the joy ending, yet I hesitate to go.
I take to the road through the mist-covered grass.

Xiqianying (Orioles Fly in Joy), three lyrics
Xue Zhaoyun
3
On the day pure and bright,
After the rain comes out the sunlight;
It is just the time I’ve achieved my height.
My proud steed in silk bridles strides on the soft muddy street,
The whip is half hidden in my fragrant sleeve.
Men rush to delight,
The flowers blooming right;
They all ride on embroidered saddles, taking beaded bridles.
When the sun is setting, they are still reluctant to go.
Grass and mist cover my back road.
