It’s a time of year where many of us get time off, where we spend time with our family and our loved ones. But for others, it’s a time of increased loneliness and despair.文章源自英文巴士-https://www.en84.com/1495.html

On the streets of our towns and cities, there has been a shocking rise in homelessness. That’s why I visited Centrepoint, a charity that does vital work in London, Bradford, Sunderland, and other places, giving opportunities to homeless young people and helping them off the streets, into a better life. But the fact is, in the sixth richest country in the world, no one should be on the streets in the first place.文章源自英文巴士-https://www.en84.com/1495.html

The charity, Shelter, tell us that 120,000 children will spend this Christmas without a home to call their own. And it’s not just the most vulnerable who are struggling to get by. Mums and dads across Britain will worry about how they’ll get through Christmas and indeed other days. Too many pensioners will go lonely, without the care they need, and a rising number of people will find themselves homeless this Christmas.文章源自英文巴士-https://www.en84.com/1495.html

Since 2010, rough sleeping has doubled, and increased by 30% in the last year alone. That’s why Labour has pledged to put an end to rough sleeping in our first term of government. We’d do that by doubling the number of homes available for people who have been sleeping on the streets. We would also provide support for homeless charities and the people who work and volunteer for them.文章源自英文巴士-https://www.en84.com/1495.html
And at this time of the year, I’d like to thank those amazing volunteers who give their time to help others. It’s the goodwill and generosity of volunteers, public service workers and charity workers, who give tirelessly to help others. They remind us of Christmas values: love for your neighbour, working together and hope – hope that things can be different. These are Labour values, my values, our values. They are values that remind us that together we can, and will change our country for the better.
Enjoy your time with loved ones and very Happy Christmas.
