The two heads of state had an in-depth exchange of views on China-U.S. relations and international affairs of mutual concern in a friendly and open atmosphere, reaching important consensus which pointed the direction for China-U.S. relations in the time to come.
习近平主席在会晤中指出，中美在促进世界和平和繁荣方面共同肩负着重要责任。一个良好的中美关系符合两国人民根本利益，也是国际社会的普遍期待。特朗普总统赞同这一对两国关系的评价，认为美中关系十分特殊、重要，我们两国都是有重要世界影响的国家，双方保持良好合作关系对两国和世界有利。此次中美元首会晤达成共识，双方停止相互加征新的关税，并将朝着取消所有加征关税的方向，加紧磋商，尽早达成互利双赢的具体协议，这不仅有利于中美两国各自的发展和人民的福祉，而且有利于世界经济的稳定增长，符合各国利益。
Sound China-U.S. relations, Xi said, are in line with the fundamental interests of the two peoples and the broad-based expectations of the international community.
U.S.-China relations were very special and important, Trump said, adding that it was in the interest of the two countries as well as the world that the United States and China, both countries of significant influence, maintained a good cooperative relationship.
The two presidents reached consensus on not imposing new additional tariffs and agreed to instruct the economic teams of the two sides to step up negotiations toward the removal of all additional tariffs and reach a concrete agreement that would result in win-win results.
The consensus will not only benefit the development of the two countries and the welfare of the two peoples, but also be conducive to the global economy’s stable growth. It conforms to the interests of all countries.
此次会晤是中美两国元首去年11月北京会晤以来的再次聚会，也是今年3月双边经贸摩擦不断升级以来，两国元首继两次通话后首次面对面沟通。两国元首同意通过访问、会晤、通话、通信等方式保持密切交往，共同引领中美关系的发展方向，并适时再次进行互访。元首外交对中美关系发展具有战略引领作用。此次两国元首之间的良性互动，为中美关系健康稳定发展作出了规划，指明了方向。
It is the first meeting between Xi and Trump since the latter paid a state visit to China in November last year, and also the first face-to-face communication between the two heads of state after they made two phone conversations to address China-U.S. trade tensions which started to escalate since this March.
The two presidents agreed to keep up close contacts with each other through visits, meetings, telephone calls and correspondences to continue providing guidance for bilateral ties, and to have further exchange of visits at an appropriate time.
The two presidents’ diplomacies play a strategic leading role in the development of China-U.S. relations. The benign interaction between the two heads of state has drawn a blueprint and pointed a clear direction for the sound development of China-U.S. relations.
发展中美关系，关键在于双方对彼此的战略意图要有准确的判断。一段时间以来，美国国内涉华消极声音增多，中美整体关系走向引起世界关注。在此次会晤中，两国元首同意，中美关系一定要搞好，也一定会搞好，同意推进以协调、合作、稳定为基调的中美关系。中美两国元首在发展双边关系上达成的这一重要共识，有利于双方相向而行，共同维护中美关系健康稳定发展的大局，也有利于共同促进世界和平与繁荣。
For some time, there are negative voices in the U.S. regarding China and the general trend of the China-U.S. relationship has been the concern of the world. During the meeting, the two heads of state agreed that China-U.S. relationship had to and would be properly handled, and reached consensus to propel a China-U.S. relationship based on coordination, cooperation and stability.
The important consensus reached on developing bilateral relations will promote the two countries to meet each other halfway, jointly safeguard the healthy and steady development of China-U.S. relations and work for global peace and prosperity.
中美是世界前两大经济体、最大的发展中国家和发达国家。两国拥有广泛共同利益和巨大合作空间，但也难免在一些领域存在分歧。存在问题不可怕，关键在于通过对话协商解决问题。正如美国前国务卿基辛格所指出：“发展美中关系需要战略思维和远见，美中双方要更好地相互理解，加强战略沟通，不断扩大共同利益，妥善管控分歧，向世人表明美中共同利益远远大于分歧。”中美只有在平等互利基础上，本着互谅互让的精神，通过友好协商妥善解决两国关系发展中出现的问题，才能不断扩大合作的基础，做大共同利益的蛋糕。此次中美元首会晤成果再次表明，中美之间共同的利益大于分歧，合作的需要大于摩擦，两国有足够的政治智慧，能够在不冲突不对抗、相互尊重、合作共赢的基础上发展双边关系。
As the world’s top two economies, as well as the largest developed country and developing country, though the U.S. and China enjoy broad common interests and space for cooperation, also encounter divergences in some areas. Dialogues and consultations are the key to solve these issues.
The basis for cooperation can be expanded and the cake of common interest made big as long as the two sides stick to the spirit of mutual understanding and mutual accommodation on the principle of equality and mutual benefit and solve issues regarding bilateral relations through friendly negotiations.
The results of Xi-Trump meeting once again prove that there are more common interests between China and the U.S. than differences, and the two countries see greater demand for cooperation than friction. Both China and the U.S. are wise enough politically to develop bilateral ties on the basis of no conflict, no confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation.
明年1月1日，中美将迎来建交40周年。40年来，中美关系历经风雨和坎坷，但总体保持稳定前行。历史和现实证明，合作是双方最好的选择，共赢才能通向美好未来。面对深刻复杂演变的国际形势，中美双方应按照两国元首达成的重要共识，从两国人民和世界各国人民根本利益出发，推动中美关系健康稳定向前发展，给两国人民带来更多“满足感”和“获得感”。
January 2019 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of China-U.S. diplomatic relations. Over the past four decades, China-U.S. relations have generally moved forward steadily amidst ups and downs.
History and reality have indicated that cooperation is the best choice for both sides and win-win cooperation is the precondition for a better future.
The international situation is undergoing profound changes. Against this backdrop, China and the U.S. should follow the consensus reached by the two heads of state, proceed from the fundamental interests of the two peoples and that of people of the world to promote China-U.S. relations steadily toward a positive direction and bring more sense of fulfillment and sense of gain for the two peoples.
